It’s Grand Final time and we’ve taken a look back through all the renos to choose our favourite room makeovers this season.

1. Chelsea and Koa’s bathroom

Toad and Mandy’s execution of their makeover of the main bathroom in the charity home renovation of Chelsea and Koa’s home wowed the judges and the HB team with their beautiful take on the house rule to ‘combine coastal cottage with mid-century modern’ style.

A combination of pale blue patterned tiles formed a feature wall behind the stunning freestanding bathtub on the far wall, with white penny round mosaic tiles on the floor – which it transpired are Chelsea’s favourite tiles.

The ‘finesse with warm metallics’ rule informed Toad and Mandy’s lovely detail of a fine line of brass running right around the room to top off the wall tiles just below ceiling height. Teamed with their choice of brass tapware and wall-mounted lighting, this combined with light timber in the mid-century style vanity unit and Toad’s handmade screen divider to bring warmth and texture to the soft palette.

2. Toad and Mandy’s dining room

The teams just seemed to get better as they go on and with Toad and Mandy’s rule of “Turn our tired old lady into an elegant homestead” the teams we able to bring in the charm. Mel and Dave filled the dining room with texture and history to create a welcoming space for Toad and Mandy’s family to come together. See the whole reveal here.

3. Mel and Dave’s Hamptons entry hall (and mud room)

We’re big fans of Hamptons style and we were thrilled to find one of Mel and Dave’s rules for the renovation of their Hope Island home was to “Transport us to The Hamptons”. Josh and Brandon didn’t disappoint in the entry hall, with stunning wainscotting, a crisp blue and white colour palette and touches of matte black metallics. Swoon! See the whole space here.

4. Jess and Jared’s living room

Who doesn’t love a hanging fireplace? For those of us who didn’t know there was such a thing – there’s no going back now! The bar has literally been raised by Leigh and Kristie in the textural haven they produced for Jess and Jared in their Adelaide home. See the whole room here.

5. Josh and Brandon’s bathroom

Designing a bathroom for a pair of guys can be something of a challenge – how to get the balance right with the right mix of masculinity, modernity and practicality was a decorating feat not for the faint-hearted. Enter Chiara and David with their “GT striped” tiling in the shower area that won over the judges and was instantly recognised by Josh and Brandon as bang on the mark with their style. See why it worked so well here.

6. Leigh and Kristie’s kitchen

We could be forgiven for thinking Leigh and Kristie’s kitchen was a disaster, due to the drama surrounding the limestone feature wall built by Jess and Jared that wasn’t completed in time. The kitchen is otherwise a beautiful space however and is imbued with texture and natural finishes like no other in the competition. Sticking close to Leigh and Kristie’s rules of “Chill out with “California Cool” style”, and “Get earthy with copper, timber, limestone and concrete,” Jess and Jared layered timber and stone beautifully beneath the wide glass splashback window and in the generous island bench. Stunning! See the whole home reveal here.

7. Leigh and Kristie’s kid’s room

Jess and Jared came through again for Leigh and Kristie in the bedroom of their son, Kobe where the rule was for them to make it look like a skate park. They did just that with a cleverly curved plywood bedframe and wall art.
