The bathroom vanity is the modern woman’s dressing table—a space wholly dedicated to our self-care. Yet, it’s so easy to let our vanities become cluttered with toothbrushes, cosmetics and endless bottles of skin care products that these spaces often cause us more stress than serenity. But with the right products and thoughtful styling, it’s possible to reclaim our vanity as a sacred space—something Alisa and Lysandra Fraser’s latest venture is all about.

After spending years feeling overwhelmed by complicated skincare routines, twin sisters and design moguls, Alisa and Lysandra decided to create their own skincare line, Al.ive Skin—a collection, they tell Home Beautiful, that “not only delivers on results, but elevates the aesthetic of your bathroom.” The seven piece skin care set, made up of everyday essentials everyday essentials, also debuts with two customisable skincare trays designed to live on your bathroom vanity.

For anyone familiar with Alisa and Lysandra’s rise to fame on the 2013 season of The Block and subsequent launch of their own interior design company, Alisa & Lysandra Interiors; and the successful Design Duo Youtube series, the skincare line’s emphasis on functional design shouldn’t come as a surprise.

“As Interior Designers, we know the power of form meeting function,” Alisa and Lysandra explain. “The trays were designed to streamline and elevate the daily routine. They bring order to your vanity, eliminate clutter, and create a considered moment of pause. It’s about turning routine into ritual, and making your space feel beautiful, intentional, and calm.”

With this in mind, we’ve asked the design duo for their best tips for styling your own vanity.

Find a balance between style and functionality

Alisa and Lysandra emphasise the importance of finding a balance between style and functionality in your vanity.

“As Interior Designers, we’re wired to make things beautiful, but it always starts with purpose,” Alisa and Lysandra explain. “If a space doesn’t function, it doesn’t matter how aesthetic it looks.”

For Lysandra, this balance looks like only keeping her essential pieces on the counter top, along with a few stylish details.

“Mine is functional but styled. I like earthy textures, stone, timber and a neutral palette. I keep only what I use daily on display, including my skincare and my Wash & Lotion Duo styled with a few personal pieces that make it feel like me.”

Take a less is more approach

When it comes to choosing the items you will display, the twins recommend aiming for curation over clutter.

“Start with your daily staples, a soft towel, your daily skincare, and products you reach for every morning. Add a beautiful tray to create structure, a touch of styling to bring warmth, and pieces that make the space feel uniquely yours,” Alisa and Lysandra explain.

“A good mirror, great lighting, premium skincare, and a tray to keep your essentials contained. Less is more, it’s all about quality, not quantity.”

For Alisa, the key to finding more curation than clutter is making sure that everything on her vanity has a place.

“My vanity is minimal and light-filled, and in my opinion everything needs to have a place. My skincare bottles sit neatly on their al.ive skin tray, alongside my Wash & Lotion Duo, a candle for warmth and a touch of soft floral.”

Don’t stop organising your space

No one likes decluttering their bathroom drawers but continuing to organise your space will will also ensure it stays feeling like a sanctuary.

“Edit often. Keep your everyday essentials grouped together and store everything else away, whether that’s in a cupboard, drawer or organiser,” the twins advise.

For the items on your vanity, the Alisa and Lysandra also recommend making use of a tray to keep things organised.

“By creating a neat, tidy aesthetic, they reduce visual clutter and eliminate the need to rummage through drawers or cupboards. Small changes that create effortless, purposeful rituals.”

Add a decorative item

Having something to look at other than your toothbrush and moisturiser will help your space feel more personal and elevated.

“A softly scented candle, a single floral stem or branch, and neutral-toned ceramics or glassware help soften the space and make it feel more elevated. These pieces don’t distract, they enhance.”
