Debonaire actor, author, and social media sensation – thanks to his love for cooking Italian food and mixing martinis in his stylish kitchen – Stanley Tucci has charm, wit and an impeccable eye for design. And if you’ve admired his equally good-looking cookware, TUCCI by GreenPan, the good news is it’s now available to buy in Australia. We chatted to Stanley about the range, Italian design and, of course, food…

How did your own aesthetic influence the design of your very attractive new range of pans?
“I grew up in a household that put great emphasis on not only food and cooking but on aesthetics as well. My family loved contemporary art and objects. Scandinavian design was all the rage in the late sixties and seventies and my parents were drawn to it as they were into mid-century design. I still have cookware from that time that has either been passed down to me or that I have collected. The design of the Tucci cookware is the result of Jan, our designer, and I looking carefully at what might best emulate great cookware of the periods I mentioned, but incorporating modern technology. ”

What were some of the key features that you wanted your range to include?
“I wanted the cookware to be beautiful and functional as well. The surfaces are non-stick and PFAs free, as well as being easy to handle. The exterior of the line is quite angular, but the inside of each pan is smooth and slightly curved making it easy to “toss” your pasta. The bottom of each pot and pan is a level surface which makes for more even cooking.”
You visited Italy to work on the design of the pans together with the designer Jan… What do you love about Italian craftsmanship?
“I wanted the line to be made in Italy because I believe it’s important to keep a connection to the land of my ancestors and to encourage the manufacture of goods in Europe.”
“The proportions of the cookware are meant to make it easy for the home cook to prepare a meal for one or two or many more people.”

Of course, the joy of food is not only in the eating, but it’s also about the pleasure of cooking. How does your range of cookware ‘feel’ to use?
“The cookware is effortless to use. It is light, durable and easy to clean.”
What was it like to cook in your pans for the first time and what did you cook?

“It was a thrill to cook in the pans for the first time. I had always wanted to design a line of cookware and thanks to GreenPan I have been able to. Jan, our designer, however, deserves the most credit. The first thing I cooked using the pans was pasta marinara. Comforting, simple and delicious.”
Which pan from the range is your versatile go-to?
“I often use the Stanley pan because I have a large family!”

Stanley himself reaches for the Stanley Pan when cooking for a large group. We love the tempered glass lid so you can see what’s going on behind the scenes without disturbing the action. Best of all, it’s dishwasher safe, though as seen in Victoria’s review of this pan, the non-stick coating means cleanup is a snap with all of the pieces in this range.
