Tackling the laundry room for a busy family of seven is no small task. So, when it came time to update their Tamworth home, the owners turned to interior designer Lucinda Kimpton of Kimpton Interiors to transform the space into a hardworking yet peaceful haven.

“With five children and a rural lifestyle, the laundry needed to be as practical as it is serene,” says Lucinda.
High on the wishlist were generous storage solutions, durable finishes and a considered layout designed to make the family’s daily routine feel effortless. Hanging rods, overhead cabinetry and under bench joinery were layered to keep the space tidy and organised.

Yet, style was equally important. The laundry room showcases Calacatta Crema marble benchtops, supplied by Lamistone, and Shaker-style cabinetry, within a serene white palette.
Now, the family has a laundry that works seamlessly and feels far from a chore. “If you have to do endless laundry, it may as well be in a space that feels calm, beautiful and thoughtfully designed – and ours is exactly that,” shares the owner.

Behind the laundry room design
“Thoughtful lighting adds warmth, elegance and a sense of intention – elevating the everyday and making functional tasks feel a little more enjoyable,” explains Lucinda, who chose a Visual Comfort ‘Goodman’ hanging pendant in Antique Brass. “Beautiful lighting may feel like an extravagance in a utilitarian space, but it’s one that transforms the energy and experience of the room.”

“Finishes, fixtures and joinery detailing all carry equal weight,” explains Lucinda of the cohesive design. Shaker-style cabinetry in Dulux Ecru Quarter is complemented by ‘Cotswold’ ball cabinet knobs from Armac Martin. An Acquello fireclay sink from The English Tapware Company suits the rural setting. It’s also practical for everyday laundry room use.
