Our favourite retro appliance comes of age.

The Smeg FAB fridge is turning 21 and a party is in order. It just so happened that there was a celebrated street artist with his hands free to help.

Thierry Noir is noted for his unique style of simple figures created from one continuous line in a few bright, bold colours paintings on the Berlin Wall during the early 80s.

In Sydney to paint the house exterior of Appliances Online founder, John Winning, he had been asked to pause whilst the project gained council approval.

With time on his hands, the artist turned his attention to the celebration of another work of art – Smeg’s FAB fridge celebrating its 21st birthday.

“Never have I been asked to stop work while permission is sought for me to continue. Never!”

Thierry Noir

The remarkable result is six FAB refrigerators that are global firsts and form a very limited edition! Unique in their decoration, on a selection of black, red and white refrigerators, Noir’s artwork adds yet another layer of street cred to an already covetable piece of design.

Each piece took the artist a full day to complete. Not a bad result, we think.

Smeg’s FAB32 refrigerators, in a range of lush colours and custom street art notwithstanding, stand as artworks themselves in the home. Available nationally from appliance specialists and electrical retailers, or go to Smeg for more details.
