A strong moody colour, black does more than just add drama to a space; it is sophisticated, hides dust and creates a sense of depth.
The key to making it work; lots of natural light and white surfaces. The defining kitchen feature, a 4.5m-metre island in black polyurethane and topped in Caesarstone in Frosty Carrina bounces the natural light around and brightens the space. The white splashback and ceiling also help to cast light around.
Choose soft, curved pendant lights to help balance out the hard edges and soften the space.

With a degree in English Literature and Art History and a background in women’s lifestyle publishing, Sue has worked across a variety of brands and platforms. These days, she considers herself lucky to focus on her passions  - travel and home interiors - and contributes to brands such as Home Beautiful, Australian House & Garden and Better Homes and Gardens. She loves patterns and prints, anything sage green, The Lost and Found Department in Hunters Hill and has a weakness for buying unique pieces on her travels, which invariably leads to overweight luggage. Sue also restores old furniture and recently went to her first embroidery workshop.
