The entire country town of Monogorilby in regional Queensland is up for sale for the price of half a home in most capital cities.
That moment might have arrived when you and your friends and decide to sell up, cut from the city and run to the bush.
Rather than battling the rising cost of housing in our cities, buy an entire town for a fraction of the price.
The current owner bought the town of Monogorilby around eight years ago when she and her late husband went to a country auction in search of farm equipment.
“We went to look at a bit of machinery and we ending up buying the whole town,” Ms Williams told the Courier Mail when she first put the town on the market for $750,000 two years ago.
Since then the price has dropped to $500,000 and the property includes 12 charming weatherboard houses – all in good condition, a helipad, tennis court and former church, together with the timber mill that once sustained the lives of Monogorilby’s small rural community.
“I think it would be the perfect place for someone that thinks outside of the box,” new agent Danielle Meyer from Danielle Meyer Rural told news.com.au.
If you’ve been dreaming of a bucolic lifestyle, the characterful town is ripe with potential and might just be the tree change you’re looking for – without breaking the bank!
