Grab the tissues if you’re a fan of Queer Eye’s fab five, because interior designer and Emmy-nominated host Bobby Berk, is leaving the show. The designer, who first appeared on Netflix’s reboot of the classic series in 2018 broke the news to fans via a touching Instagram post.

“The love that I have received from you all has been absolutely surreal,” he began, before dropping the bombshell of his departure, “Season 8 will be my final season on Queer Eye. It’s not been an easy decision to be at peace with, but a necessary one.”

Fans reacted to the post with a mix of humour and heartfelt emotion: “But who’s going to do 90% of the work while everyone else is out drinking wine and eating cheese”, wrote one follower. Another praised the Bobby’s immense talent to change lives through the power of interior design: “You are a literal magical fairy contractor decorator icon legend king. It will not be the same without you.”

So what’s next for Bobby Berk?

In his Instagram post, Bobby didn’t confirm what he’d be doing next, but he did end on a rather cryptic note. “Although my journey with Queer Eye is over, my journey with you is not. You will be seeing more of me very soon,” he wrote.

One clue that could tell us what Bobby’s going to get up to post Queer Eye is to take look back at what he’s already done. For the past three years, Bobby and his team at Bobby Berk Home have been converting a four bedroom home in Los Angeles into their new company headquarters.

The epic conversion was documented on Bobby’s own blog, which also revealed that the office would act “as a showcase for our design work and all of Bobby’s products.”

So it seems Bobby will definitely continue to product his own range of home furnishings, which includes everything from wallpaper to homewares to wall art and rugs. His partnership with home construction company with Tri Pointe Homes which began in 2015 also appears to be going strong.

Who will replace Bobby Berk on Queer Eye?

There’s no official word on who will replace Bobby in future seasons of Queer Eye, but Pride.com have put forth their list of worthy replacements, which includes talented designers ranging from HGTV’s Brian Patrick Flynn and Terri Moore to the legendary Jonathan Adler.

If you want to see more of Bobby’s work, pick up his book Right At Home: How Design is Good for the Mind and be sure to add January 24 2024 to your calendar, when Bobby’s final season of Queer Eye airs on Netflix.
