In Australia, we are lucky to be able to enjoy strawberries all year round but there are certain times of the year where strawberries are “in season”. In summer, the majority of our strawberries come from Victoria, Tasmania and South Australia and in winter, they are harvested in the Sunshine Coast and Western Australia. While there is no specific “season”, there are peak times for harvesting strawberries in these regions but this is influenced by growing conditions such as weather, rainfall, pests and diseases.
Strawberries are so versatile and can be used in salads, savoury dishes, smoothies and desserts. They also hold their own on fruit platter and make an excellent garnish for baked goods. When strawberries are abundant, flavourful and affordable, it’s a great excuse to make a little extra effort around the dining table after dinner for something a little sweet.
