You’ve decked the halls and put up your tree, swapped presents and are ready to sit down to a bountiful spread. But what does your table setting look like? It can be hard to decide upon a theme from which you base your festive decor, but going the extra mile and creating a spread to remember makes for an extra special Christmas celebration.

1. Sweet, colourful and fun
Take a break from tradition by introducing a bit of colour. Here, soft pastels of pink, blue and yellow make for a Christmas table spread with personality. Make your own bunting from vintage or unused fabrics and carry the theme through chair decor, napkins, servingware and florals.

2. Dark, moody and sophisticated
If a European Christmas speaks to you, this theme will be likely to as well. Deep navy meets with royal red and metallic hits of gold for an effect that is sophisticated and reminiscent of a nordic, white Christmas. Embellish your table with sprigs of pine, sleek cutlery, simple platters, candle holders and a big bouquet of simple but beautiful blooms.

3. Neutral and effortless
Think wildflowers, crumpled, natural linen, speckled ceramics and flutes of effervescent champagne as far as the eye can see. For this style, keep the palette minimal but create interest and texture by layering plates, fabrics and vases.

4. Rustic and muted
This style is simple, but beautiful. Follow a muted, tonal and non-traditional palette; think teals, dusty pink, or mustard. Going for a rustic Christmas theme lets you get a bit creative – you can mix and match vintage cutlery, plates and napkins, or keep the spread matching.
