First Lady Melania Trump has unveiled the customary White House Christmas decorations in Washington in time-honoured style.
Each year at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, Washington The White House decks the halls in extravagant style and with the Trumps in residence, all were waiting to see how the First Lady would execute this year’s official theme, “Time-Honoured Traditions”.

Tours are taken through room after room of decorations, brought together by a team of volunteers from all over the US, including 53 Christmas trees with over 12,000 ornaments throughout the estate. With over 26,000 visitors expected to walk through during the holiday period the First Lady led the first tour through herself, her entrance through an avenue of wintery white branches greeted by ballet dancers performing to The Nutcracker suite.
Weighing in at over 130kg, the White House bakers have created a gingerbread replica of The White House, complete with window wreaths.
Some decorations hold specific meaning, such as tree ornaments bearing the seals of the 50 US states and territories.
“As with many families across the country, holiday traditions are very important to us. I hope when visiting the People’s House this year, visitors will get a sense of being home for the holidays.”
