Along with the tree, a wreath is one of the most important and instantly recognisable Christmas decorations. Sure, you could purchase an artificial wreath and call it a day, but creating one yourself from fresh flowers and foliage is a project that will really get you into the Christmas spirit. If you can forage for flowers and greenery in your own garden, it’ll be a budget-friendly project as well!

Here, stylist and founder of The Lifestyle Edit, Heidi Albertiri, creates a festive floral wreath using orchids as the focal flower, complemented by tonal secondary blooms. If you did want your masterpiece to last forever, you could create this design using artificial flowers and leaves. Simply swap out the Oasis ring for a rattan or wicker wreath and attach the decorations with paper-coated wire.

To keep a fresh wreath looking incredible until Christmas, place it out of direct sunlight, spritz with water every 1-2 days and consider coating it with a specially designed spray, such as Floralife Finishing Touch to hydrate and protect the flowers long-term.

Method:

  1. Choose a focal bloom to place around the circle to draw attention, then select other flowers that blend in colour and textures.
  2. Continue all the way around the wreath, alternating your flowers to create a flow from one section to the next.
  3. Turn the wreath around to look at it from every angle to ensure all the base is covered.
  4. Fix a ribbon to the back if you want to hang the wreath, or use your creation as a fabulous table decoration.
