Having recently moved from Sydney to an extensively renovated cottage in the Southern Highlands, the owners often have friends stay for the weekend. So when it was time to renovate the only room that remained untouched – the guest bathroom – they asked interior designer Sarah Nolen of Birdblack Design to create ‘something special’ for their guests to enjoy.
Out went the dated pink and grey features, and in came a dazzling wall of glass mosaics from Di Lorenzo. A copper bath and basin followed – and the rich, treacle tones of the palette were set in place.
While regular maintenance is required for the polished copper bath and antique copper basin, both from The Copper Sink Company, Sarah Nolen had the basin coated in polyurethane to keep it looking pristine. “The bath is polished copper, which means it won’t tarnish nearly as quickly as antique copper,” says Sarah. “It just needs to be cleaned with a special polish every three months.”
