Is there anything more luxurious and relaxing than enjoying a fabulous drop of wine with dinner, or on the couch as you unwind after a hectic week? We think not! But alas, our wine consumption has – until now – been deemed an indulgence that can contribute to weight gain and other health issues.

However, according to a study conducted by Washington State University, that may not be quite true.

The findings of the study suggest that drinking wine can actually lead to weight loss, provided you don’t drink more than two glasses and only drink wine in the evening.

According to the study, wine contains resveratrol which can turn white fat (bad fat) into beige fat (good fat that can be burned off easier). Resveratrol is found in fruit, and it can increase gene expression, which increases oxidation of dietary fats so the body won’t be overloaded.

However, the researchers  did reveal that it’s better to eat fruit to stimulate this effect in your body, as the effect will not be quite as effective when drinking wine.
