Before & After: The bathroom reno that goes from seriously ugly to simply fabulous

Dated decor meets savvy style

This bathroom renovation is the stuff of fantasy. Countless hopeful home buyers have walked through similar property inspections to encounter so much to be done inside it seems overwhelming.

“Yuck” was the first word that sprang to mind as the homeowners wandered through this bathroom on the Sunshine Coast. Part of a whole-home renovation, the entire property was in disrepair but, perhaps the biggest challenge in the bathroom was that in its prime the décor was so on-trend that almost every element needs to be replaced.

Bringing it into the current decade

With a view to saving where possible, the homeowners resolved to renovate the bathroom where the existing amenities sat and incorporate a laundry into the space.

Wanting to keep everything ‘floating’ and streamlined to enhance the sense of space, they opted for a suspended storage cabinet and wall-solutions where possible.

The before and after bathroom case study you'll never forget
Before: Dominated by dated decor

The problems:

  • Floor tiling was loud, dated and in disrepair – and on the vanity benchtop?!
  • The built-in bathtub was worn and too small
  • A pokey shower recess was over-engineered and took up too much space
  • Daggy wall tiles needed replacing
  • Inadequate storage
  • Tiny windows gave little natural light and air flow

The solution:

  • New floor tiles ‘Vogue’ matt finish in Dark Grey, Cooloola Tiles
  • A tranquil feel created by a ‘Bette Starlet’ bath from Rogerseller
  • Sliding glass door installed floor-to-ceiling to take advantage of the lush outdoors
  • Shower replaced by streamlined glass frameless shower (seen in mirror)
  • Floating cabinetry in ‘Aged Oak’ Timber veneer installed alongside a generous mirrored cabinet
  • A wall-mounted ‘Catalano C3 70’ washbasin from Rogerseller and a recessed shelf complete the fabulous new functionality
  • A ‘Rombi’ stool by Join is the perfect night to keep a towel – or a glass of wine- close at hand while bathing
