The beauty of this makeover is that it is purely decorative – new textiles and accessories came together to create a completely new look for the under-utilised room, with the help of interior designer Tahn Scoon. Now, plain carpeting is concealed by an exquisite ‘Harvest’ hand-knotted wool rug from Bayliss, with an elegant glass and metal ‘Industria Uovo’ coffee table from Globe West replacing a coastal-style timber model.
Ikea ‘Ektorp’ sofas were updated with new slipcovers and cushions in luxe textiles from Fabric Traders. “Replacement slipcovers are more affordable than reupholstering, which can be prohibitively expensive,” says interior designer Tahn. “The trick is to make sure they fit well. If you have a sofa that doesn’t come with covers, some companies make to measure.”
Burnished brass highlights, including an ornate lamp base from Sachs And Cornish, were chosen to add glamour to the natural palette. Meanwhile, restrained black touches, by way of upholstery piping and accessories, help ground the scheme. For a similar mirror, try ‘Flores’ from La Maison. The charming metallic side table was an Ebay bargain, costing just $50.
