Timeless timber kitchens

Solid ash benchtops, made by a local cabinetmaker, apply a personal stamp and a touch of luxury to the Ikea cabinets. The timber bench was then stained to match the floors, and an Ikea ceramic sink added.

The original wood stove is the only remnant of this old space. Ikea cabinets and thoughtful flourishes, such as the splashback in pressed metal left over from the hallway of this home, complete the room’s quirky yet timeless appeal. An island bench from Ikea, teamed with bar stools, acts as a central gathering place for guests.

This irregularly designed shaped island bench with a Caesarstone top, creates a space at one end for bar stools. Floor-to-ceiling cabinetry, painted in the same Dulux Gamelan as the walls provides ample storage, while a stainless-steel splashback reflects light.

There is something about the simplicity of open shelves: beautiful dinnerware, glasses and biscuit jars are all kept on display in the kitchen above stainless-steel workbenches. Central to the space is a custom-made recycled-timber island bench, which also features open shelves stacked with large platters and bowls. The bench, paired with bar stools, is a great spot to watch the flurry of activity in the kitchen.
