The waterfront beach shack owned and renovated by journalist and TV personality Samantha Armytage hit the market with a price guide of $3.2 million late last year and is still up for grabs. Sam purchased the Hyams Beach property, located on a pristine stretch of coastline right between Hyams Beach and Chinamans Beach in 2018 for $1.765 million and promptly refreshed the interiors, swapping out nautical decor for a chic, all-white colour palette.
While Sam herself has enjoyed many blissful escapes to the property in recent years with husband Richard Lavender and beloved Labrador Retriever, Banjo, she’s also shared it with holiday goers, renting it for short-term stays on Airbnb for $1200 a night (which you can still do while it’s on the market – proof there’s potential here for a side hustle).
Listing agent Craig McIntosh of The Holidays Collection said Sam has “given the house a good makeover” replacing its roof and enhancing its charm through the power of styling. He said any prospective buyer could simply walk in and enjoy the property as-is, but that there was still plenty of potential to convert the spacious double garage into a studio, entertainment zone or sleep out.
Before and after
Samantha Armytage isn’t the only Australian celebrity who has been drawn to Hyams Beach’s glorious white sand and salty sea air. INXS drummer Jon Farris once lived just doors down from Samantha’s weekender, while The Block judge Darren Palmer recently opened the doors to his Hyams Beach hideaway ‘Akora Cottage’.
And although Sam is planning to say goodbye to her slice of paradise on the NSW South Coast, she’ll still be able to enjoy waterfront views at her property in Sydney’s Rushcutter’s Bay or retreat to her idyllic country home in the NSW Southern Highlands.
