The mystery buyer of a hinterland estate in Queensland just so happens to be the one and only Margot Robbie, reports claim. The acreage property is located in Currumbin Valley, close to her childhood hometown in the Gold Coast. The Australian actor and producer is said to have purchased the home in an off-market deal.
The estate was purchased for $28 million in June last year, according to property records. The company that purchased the home was Pippyyork Pty Ltd on behalf of another party believed to be Margot, says The Daily Mail.
The publication shares that locals have seen a series of new screening trees being planted along the rear boundary, amping up the property’s privacy. It prompts the question, is Margot Robbie moving back to Australia? With family still based in Queensland, where she grew up, it makes sense she’d want a base Down Under. Or could she be moving back here permanently to create a family home on Aussie soil?

Margot Robbie’s new home in Australia
Last sold in 2017 for $2.55 million, Margot Robbie’s recently purchased home underwent an extensive transformation before she bought it eight years later for just over $25 million in 2025, according to Domain.
The former home was demolished with an expansive new dwelling constructed in its place. The project, named The Copper Arbour, has been shared by the build team on social media and won the Masters Builders Gold Coast 2025 House of the Year award.
The team who worked on the project include Paul Uhlmann Architects who did the design and architecture and Blenkins Build who completed the construction, with bespoke furnishing, styling and feature lighting by Residence Studio. Outside, Nest Landscape Design reinvented the sprawling gardens. The grounds include a pool with two mature palm trees, alongside a tennis court.
“The grand entry at our Copper Arbour project makes a bold first impression, but once inside, the space feels warm and comfortably scaled—truly a place that feels like home,” shared Paul Uhlmann Architects.
An alfresco area features travertine seats that are heated, “making them luxurious and warm to sit on, even on the cooler days!” the architectural firm shared.
Leaving Australia for Hollywood
Before finding international fame with her role in The Wolf of Wall Street alongside Leonardo DiCaprio, Margot Robbie was known as Donna from Neighbours. She was born on the Gold Coast and her upbringing leans into all of the Aussie cliches.
In a 2016 Vanity Fair article, Margot discussed her childhood: “People always want to know, ‘Did you have kangaroos outside your bedroom window?’” she said. “I’m like, ‘Yes, but none of my other friends did.’ Or ‘Did you have snakes running around?’ And again, ‘Yes, in our house, but this isn’t an Australian thing.’”
The Barbie star’s Los Angeles home
Margot is now based in Los Angeles, where she lives with her husband, Tom Ackerley, and their young son, who was born in 2024. She has a close-knit group of Aussie girlfriends who also live in the United States, including Phoebe Tonkin, Lara Worthington and Samara Weaving.
The multi-talented star co-founded production company LuckyChap Entertainment in 2014 with her husband and friends Sophia Kerr and Josey McNamara, and gave a tour of the offices in an Architectural Digest video. The company has produced some of the most commercially successful films in recent decades, including Wuthering Heights, which she starred in with fellow Aussie actor Jacob Elordi, Saltburn, I, Tonya and Promising Young Woman, and, of course, Barbie, which surpassed $1 billion at the box office.

Margot Robbie isn’t the only mega-famous star to have a mansion on Australian soil. Most famous is probably Chris Hemsworth, who lives in Broken Head near Byron Bay with his wife Elsa Pataky and their children. His Thor: Love and Thunder co-star Russell Crowe also still calls Australia home, even after major roles in Hollywood movies such as Gladiator.
