This Queensland home exudes beachside beauty

At her Noosa abode, homeowner Gail’s tranquil deck is shrouded by a canopy of trees she shares with the other local residents, birds and koalas. An all-weather custom-made dining table from Furniture By Marx is an ideal fit for the space, paired with durable chairs from Signature On Hastings. The timber decking is painted an off-white in keeping with Gail’s pale palette. “Although white is perhaps not the most practical colour for decking, I love its freshness and how it helps merge the indoor and outdoor spaces,” she says. 

Gail’s home is filled with beautifully curated tabletops and corner nooks, where objects are skilfully arranged to create the perfect balance of height, texture and depth. “The secret to creating a grouping that doesn’t look cluttered or haphazard is to use a restrained palette and choose similar pieces in various forms,” comments Gail.

The trade-off to adding floor-to-ceiling windows in the combined living and dining area was losing precious wall space for art displays, yet Gail managed to find just enough room in the dining zone for an abstract by Isabel Lawrence. For a dash of colour, the chairs are upholstered in Designers Guild ‘Nara’ fabric, echoing similar aqua accents in neighbouring rooms. Gail’s preference for long-lasting greenery and flowers is evident throughout her home, with a pot of orchids forming a living centrepiece on a dining table from her store.

With its concealed utilitarian features, this white-on-white kitchen sits seamlessly within the open-plan living and dining area. The star performer is the long 2-pac double-sided island bench. “Originally, I had planned to have a marble benchtop, but with tight site access, a marble slab would have been too large and heavy to carry into the house,” explains Gail. Atypically, Gail chose to stretch out the island onto the deck to enhance the natural flow between the indoors and out. An awning window and concertina doors securely frame the bench’s outdoor section (which is also waterproof).

Formerly separated by a solid wall, the master bedroom and ensuite were reconfigured into one luxurious, grown-up space. The centrepiece of the washzone is a custom-made wall-hung vanity Gail designed herself, which is topped with above-counter basins and tapware from Christiaan’s. But Gail’s favourite feature is the bath. The elegant footstool is upholstered in a turquoise Designers Guild velvet, which Gail also had made into throw cushions for her bed, creating a subtle style link between the sleeping and bathing zones.

Gail’s serene room is filled with abundant natural light, thanks to a wall of louvres. “It’s very private so I have no need for a window dressing which would only obstruct the view,” she says. The bed from Signature On Hastings is dressed with cushions in Designers Guild fabrics and a taupe Bemboka cashmere throw, also found in Gail’s store.
