House Rules teams, Aaron and Daniella and Kate and Harry, tackled the twins’ Western Australia home and transformed the yard into a functional and fun space.

Aaron and Daniella took on the front yard and created a beautiful, welcoming entrance. Plants of varying heights and textures, like Adenthos and Chryso add interest to the raised garden beds. Having impressed Laurence before with his handyman skills, Aaron made the window awnings himself, hoping to gain good favour once more.

Out the back, a servery bar extends from the kitchen, opening it up to the backyard. A playful splash of colour (try Taubmans) adorns the wall while black bar stools from Kmart invite guests to sit down and enjoy the space. Kate and Harry were unsure of where the pine timber decking should go, but ultimately decided to run it along the length of the home thereby extending the sense of space and opening up the living zones.

Strings of bare bulb hanging from corners of the roof provide light as well as atmosphere. The concrete table is a stand-out piece while the Crusoe rope chairs add a more casual, relaxed vibe to the outdoor entertaining area. The Slab Concrete table in Ivory and chairs are from Sitting Pretty.

To match the interiors, Kate and Harry added a colourful Rubik’s cube-inspired floor piece, sitting underneath a fireplace by AMES. The oversized outdoor lounge from The Outdoor Furniture Store (TOFS) is ideal for large groups while a series of native plants (from Benara) line the fence and once mature, will give more privacy to the space.
